Sustainable Waste Processing

For many years, the processing of used silicone backing paper has been an industry-wide problem – there just wasn’t a genuinely sustainable way to process it. We’ve put years into trying to find a solution – engaging multiple recycling organisations and paper manufacturers – but it remained an ongoing problem.

Finally, there’s now a sustainable way to process all types of used backing paper and we’re keen to share it and encourage everyone in the print industry to adopt it. It’s better for the environment, it makes good business sense, it’s a no brainer.

We joined FESPA UK and we gained their waste accreditation certificate for our waste processing standards – which we recommend as it’s very straightforward – but further to this we’re now involved in their Waste Management Project. As part of this they’ve assessed our waste processing systems and worked with us to make them more sustainable. Our waste was already minimal due to our efficient and innovative manufacturing processes, and we’ve run ISO14001 for the last ten years – measuring and reducing our waste on an ongoing basis, but we’re now able to genuinely process our used backing paper – and pretty much everything else – in a way that is genuinely sustainable.

If you’re in the industry and keen to work as sustainably as possible we highly recommend that you get involved in FESPA UK’s Waste Management Project. We’re happy to share our knowledge, so if you want to know more just get in touch.
